Grandma's Chocolate Cake

My father's mother, Ida, was an amazing cook. This recipe is my dad's favorite. The story goes that when Ida baked she baked this cake for my dad and a cherry cake for his younger brother.


cream 1/4 lb butter and 1 cup sugar

4 eggs - add one at a time beating thoroughly after each one with electric beater

1 cup Swandsdown self-rising flour

1 can Hershey’s syrup (16 oz)

no greasing pan

Bake 30 min. 325F oven (or a little longer)


Frosting:

2 tbsp melted unsweetened choc. - 2 squares Baker’s unsweetened choc. Cool chocolate.

1 cup confectioners sugar

1 rounded tbsp butter

1 tbsp cream

1 egg

Beat thoroughly with electric beater
